Hideko is in demand around the world as an interpreter and commentator for presentations by Japanese masters of bonsai and suiseki. In addition to her knowledge of bonsai and suiseki, Mrs. Metaxas is also a renowed teacher of flower arrangement (Ikenobo school of Ikebana) and an expert in Tokonoma display, which she has studied for many years, following the teaching of Master Susumu Sudo of the Keido school.

Hideko will lecture on Keido and provide a critique of the suiseki exhibit at the September 2008 BCI-IBS Congress in Italy.

Mas starts with a model using polystyrene and plaster.  This way he can determine where the rim of the base should be, and how much of the stone to reveal.

He paints the plaster model so he can see roughly what the finished wooden daiza will look like.  This also helps him figure out how dark to stain the wood.
