On a cold, drizzly day we took the JR sightseeing train into the mountains of "inner Izumo" to see the fall colors.

jtroth > Okuizumo Genan (奥出雲玄庵) - a soba restaurant in Miinohara (三井野原).

The restaurant is run by the farmers that grow the buckwheat. They make the noodles each day, and stop serving when it's all gone. There are only two items on the menu (to the left of the door). They serve you simple, delicious, country-style, soba noodles followed by the "sobayu", which is the liquid in which the soba was cooked.

jtroth > After lunch, we took a walk to enjoy the countryside around Miinohara before starting the train trip back to Matsue.

jtroth > But always, in any season, whether in Missouri or Japan, the dogwood is my favorite.

jtroth > Having gotten off the sightseeing train we had to use the regular local commuter trains. Among other things, this entailed a long wait at Izumo-Yokota station.
