2-1. Natural Stone Candidate?

We always prefer to keep a stone natural, rather than to cut it. In addition, any time you cut a stone, there is always a chance it will break. So even if the result of cutting would be an excellent suiseki, always study it carefully to see if you could keep it natural.

If you leave this stone natural, you might be able to show it as a shelter stone. However, it is not a well-balanced composition as a natural stone, and is not pleasing. Therefore, Mas' choice is to to cut the stone - if cut as marked it is possible to get two good suiseki from it.
